The roots of Freedom and Strength Yoga

Why call it Freedom and Strength Yoga?

In 2023, I chose two powerful words to guide my year: Freedom and Strength.

I longed for freedom—from opinions, expectations, and financial pressures. I wanted the freedom to be truly happy and confident in who I am, and in the life I was creating for myself and my family.

But freedom doesn’t happen with the snap of a finger. To experience it fully, I realized I needed strength—mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

That’s where my journey began.

Through yoga, I found the tools to build that strength and step into the freedom I had envisioned. And I knew I wanted to share this gift with anyone ready to embrace their own journey of growth and empowerment.

On March 21, 2025, Freedom and Strength Yoga was officially born—a space dedicated to helping others find their freedom and strength, both on and off the mat.

Vision of classes

When you step onto your mat in one of my classes, my hope is simple: that you enjoy the journey.

I want you to laugh. To move with curiosity. To maybe fall—or maybe fly.

I want you to feel your worth, to notice your growth, and even surprise yourself with something you didn’t think you could do.

My classes are about more than poses—they’re about having fun, embracing your individuality, and discovering that you already have the Freedom to be yourself and the Strength to handle anything that comes your way.

Because here’s the truth:
To create your own Freedom throughout life… you must first Empower the Strength within yourself.”

All it takes is a little patience—and a lot of trust in you.

About the Founder

Hi, I’m Katie Benton, the heart behind Freedom and Strength Yoga.

My yoga journey started back in June 2019 when I completed my 200-hour RYT certification. It was life-changing—but honestly, I needed time to let it all sink in. I didn’t officially start teaching until January 2020, just before the world turned upside down.

Then the pandemic hit, and like many others, I had to adapt. I learned to teach online, but something felt missing. Yoga, for me, is about connection—real, face-to-face energy that you can feel in the room. So as soon as the world started to open up again, I began teaching small in-person classes for friends. Those moments were magic. They gave me space to grow as a teacher and reminded me why I fell in love with yoga in the first place.

For the next four years, I stayed in that space—teaching friends, building confidence, and dreaming about what could be next. Then, in 2024, something amazing happened. I taught Family Yoga at Flow Fest at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. It was my first time leading a family-focused class, and I loved every second of it. Seeing families connect, laugh, and move together sparked something in me. I knew then: this is what

I want to do.

I want to create spaces where people feel strong, connected, and amazed at what their bodies can do. I want kids to discover mindfulness and movement in a fun way, and parents to share that experience with them.

Since then, I’ve been pursuing advanced training in kids’ yoga through Twist Kids Yoga and working toward my RCYT (Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher) certification. My next goal? Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training, so I can support families from the very beginning of their

journey.

Freedom and Strength Yoga was born from my belief that yoga is for everyone—every body, every family, every stage of life. And I can’t wait to share

that journey with you.
